Catherine Ford was raised in Bloomsbury by her grandmother and mother. When she was a little girl, she was diagnosed with an obsessional disorder and suffered from anxiety because of the word"association. Ford started to become interested in acting at the age of teenager and joined the National Youth Theatre. The school she was accepted to was Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after a short period of weeks, she realized Sylvia Young Theatre School was not the right place for her. Ford decided to apply for admission to Central School of Speech and Drama and winning a placement on her third attempt, applied and won an admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford's first appearance on television was the 1991 episode Surgical Spirit. By the time she graduated, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate was a part of such television shows as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London Burning. Apart from her regular performances in the theatre, Tate also joined in the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate received recognition for her comedy stand-up, which has been added to her resume in 1996.
